Today and yesterday we have been working on making an effective car design. We split into 5 groups of 2 and 1 group of 3. Each group began drawing their own idea for what our car should look like. After that, each group began deciding on ways to justify why their design was the best for the car. Reasons include how aerodynamic their car design is, as well as how heavy such a design would be. Tomorrow, we will decide which design to use.
Yesterday was an exciting day for us! We took Team USA's kit car out to drive. Unfortunately, the weather was really cold, but we still made the best of it! We are planning to drive at least once a week so we are prepared for the real race. Enjoy these pictures!
This week we have had several different people come and check up on our car. For example, a lady from Siemens came and photographed our build team working on the car, as well as interviewing a few of our members. We have had a few members from the Blue Ribbon Committee, as well as Dr. Wardynski, the Huntsville City Schools superintendent, come and look at our car and talk to some of our members.
Our team finally decided our presentation was ready. We asked some of the teachers from our school to critique our presentation. We received lots of helpful tips and critiques. Our presentation is in the final editing stage and will be ready for company presentations shortly. We have finally got back into the build room after a few obstacles came up including the PowerPoint presentation, a bolt for the motor being too big, and a piece of our steering column not aligning with the car. Our wind tunnel is under construction, and will be finished shortly. We have had an exciting and productive week and we hope to continue with our progress. Today we worked on 3D design. We worked on centering objects in the Solid Edge Software and getting them to look right. It was difficult, but rewarding!
This week we have gotten a lot done. We now have a main present team who will present most of the time. We are looking at materials to cover our car with, we are also look at possible ideas for fundraising just in case we need to raise some extra money.
We are hoping to start presenting to companies soon. Once we get the presenting part down we can get back to building our car. This will get us back moving in the right direction. We hope that next week will be another great week of getting things done. This week we will be putting one hundred percent of our focus into presenting. We will be practicing presenting today, and Wednesday and Thursday everyone will present in front of the team. On Friday we will decide on the six best presenters and make them our present team. this will be the group that will present our power point to companies.
Yesterday afternoon we began working on our 3D software. All we did yesterday was learn the basics: how to make squares, circles, holes, walls, etc. This afternoon we will put our skills to the test and try to design a lego. When we become experienced enough with the software, we will be able to design the parts we need for the car and send them to a machinist to make the parts.
Today was our first day back after Fall Break. We broke off into groups and got started.
Our outreach group is trying to find foam to carve models of the car. They also are looking over the power point we created to make sure it is the best it can be. Finally, we are find office supplies like (paper, pens, etc.) for our office. Our budget group and wind tunnel group are working together to figure out how much money we need to make our wind tunnel. We thought it was important for them to work together so we could put how much money that was need for the wind tunnel into the budget. We are excited for another great week of hard work to accomplish our goals. Last Friday, we voted on the build leader, and Brady Tuten won the election. Our first leader meeting will be next Monday morning. These meetings will happen once a week for the 4 leaders. In these meetings, the leaders will discuss the goals for the week and how the group will reach them.
This week if Fall Break for Huntsville City Schools. We will not be at school and do not plan on meeting. Last Friday, we also discussed things to reflect on over Fall Break. Hopefully everyone will come back to school ready to get to work so we can meet our final goal of going to England! So far, we have voted on our out reach leader and our two co leaders. The out reach leader is in charge of fundraising, budgeting, presentations, etc. Our two co leaders our in charge of managing and leading everything we do. Now that we've started building the car, we need a build leader. We have decided that we will vote this Friday. The build leader will be in charge of everything from getting tools to leading the build process. Many people are prepared to take up this responsibility, and we trust that the leader we choose will go above and beyond to benefit the team.
